Eight Belles at Churchill Downs |
Horse Thoughts
The tragedy of Eight Belles, the first filly in the Kentucky Derby since 1999, being put down on the track after her second-place finish, saddened all of us horse lovers. Eight Belles broke two ankles, and was euthanized. It is never easy to have a horse put down, but it makes it even harder to witness one with such beauty and strength. She will forever be missed and may always be a reminder of the dark side of horse racing.
“There was no way to save her,” said her trainer, Larry Jones. “She went out in glory,” Jones said. “She went out a champion...”
In a gesture of compassion for the filly, Easy Street Rescue received a $27 donation won by a horse lover for her bet on Eight Belles. I want thank that horse lover and share her thoughts with you. She wrote, “Dear Easy Street Rescue, These are my winnings from my wager on Eight Bells in the Kentucky Derby. Please accept these in her memory.”
Thank you again for passing on Eight Belles winnings onto other horses in need. You are truly an angel of horses. in for passing on Eight Belles winnings onto other horses in need.
